"Do recruiters confirm the information or do they generally believe what we put on the resume?"

This was one of the questions I received during the Irresistible Resume workshop that happened on Monday. It was two hours of content, exchange and invaluable tips for those who want to be noticed in the American labor market (if you want to have access to the recording and incredible bonuses, sign up here).

I replied that recruiters don’t usually confirm metrics with past employers; the most they do is ask a few things when they check referrals. But that an experienced recruiter knows when descriptions are bullshit and pass candidates who lie or inflate results or positions.

Poderia parar a resposta aí, mas eu conheço o meu gado. Se meu público fosse formado por homens, eu colocaria mais medo sobre não inflar métricas (aahh a auto estima invejada dos homens).

But I deal with women. I know that their problem is not to lie in the resume, quite the contrary - it is to diminish your achievements, feel impostors to quantify their results. Their biggest fear is to put a REAL estimate and come up someone from the ground with finger in laughter saying "you are a fraud" and "where is the worksheet to prove these data"? Because we believe in the achievements of others in the same proportion that we devalue our own.

So I kept answering them saying to stop worrying if they will check the metrics or not. If you did what you are describing, put it in the resume without fear and, if someone comes out of the ground, invite this figure (who is yourself) to join your team. In a world that is already harder for women, we have to use our energy and inner voices in our favor, not against.
